    Opportunity Overview

    VICE PRESIDENT

    THE COMPANY

Our client is a private equity firm with over 25 years of investment experience building healthy and growing businesses, with a strong focus in Europe and a growing presence in North America.

    THE POSITION

Reporting to the Managing Director of the newly created Boston Office, the Vice President role offers an excellent opportunity to use your passion for entrepreneurship and investing within Private Equity. You will be challenged to develop quickly by actively participating in building a new private equity business in the U.S. and working with the firm’s current U.S. portfolio. In addition, you will have an important role in building the US team, managing, developing and coaching the Associates. This position is on-site with occasional travel.

On the transaction side, you will be responsible for the entire investment process; from finding new investment opportunities, further expanding the companies to selling a portfolio company. You’ll develop your own investment proposals, market analyses, and manage the sourcing. You will be able to independently manage a deal (purchase and sale) and report in outline to a partner. You will assess strategies, financial models, conduct due diligence and arrange bank financing.

In the post-deal phase, you will work on creating winning management teams, implementing and monitoring the value creation agenda, performance analyses, strategy, add-on acquisitions and recapitalizations. You will be responsible, in the role of shareholder, for 2 to 3 portfolio companies and are the first day-to-day point of contact for the management teams of these portfolio companies. For the involvement in the portfolio companies and transactions, the team consists of a partner, an Investment Manager (VP) and an Associate.

In this role, you will play a key part in establishing a new geography for a well-established European Private Equity firm leading to additional career opportunities within this internationally growing fund with an investment focus on the US and Europe. You will have a voice and meaningful responsibilities during the investment process and the further development of the companies, as well as extensive opportunities for professional education and training to promote continuous growth of your expertise.

    Responsibilities

    • Active sourcing of new investment opportunities - initially more sourcing given the nature of a new office and relatively small existing portfolio.
    • Proactive industry research and focus on expansion of the firm's network.
    • Direct responsibility during the investment process for new platform investments and add-on acquisitions.
    • Day-to-day management of portfolio companies.
    • Active support and involvement in key strategic, human capital, financial and operational projects.
    • Act as a trusted sparring partner for founders and management teams.
    • Coaching and developing associates.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a professional working environment, e.g. private equity, investment banking, (strategy) consultancy, M&A.
    • Experience in entrepreneurship and/or working with entrepreneurs will be especially helpful, especially when combined with a passion for investing and value creation.
    • Strong analytical ability with the ability to look critically at your own and others’ analysis.
    • Highly developed leadership in a non-hierarchical/team environment with excellent communication and social skills, bolstered by broad social interest and a sense of humor.
    • Bachelor’s degree with excellent academic results. An advanced degree is a plus.

    GENERAL COMPETENCIES

Finally, this individual should have as many as possible of the traits required to succeed in this leadership position:

    • High levels of intelligence, analytical strength, and conceptual ability combined with curiosity, grit and passion.
    • The ability, and willingness, to set and communicate high standards for professional staff and to hold people accountable for their performance; at the same time, sensitivity to, and insight into individuals’ capabilities and development needs, and the combination of firmness and likability that all good leaders possess.
    • Decisiveness, when necessary, coupled with a willingness to seek input and build consensus.
    • Excellent writing and speaking skills; this individual must be able to communicate complex ideas and information clearly and concisely.
    • Outstanding planning and organization skills.
    • Good strategic instincts and long-term vision; the ability to address both big-picture issues and detailed, day-to-day management concerns.
    • A sense of ownership, not just of his or her own work, or that of their department, but a sense of ownership for the company.
    • Demonstrated success as a people leader, including the ability to set and gain buy-in for strategic direction and vision, attract, hire, retain, and develop high performing teams, and establish an engaging culture of accountability, quality, and customer focus.
    • Demonstrate professional behavior and actions consistent with company values.

    Compensation

Compensation is competitive with the position’s requirements. In a performance-based environment, this will include base salary and bonus structure based on corporate qualitative and quantitative milestones and a commensurate carried interest position.
