"Success + Failure = Wisdom"

"Five of the ten most stressful life events are related to whether you are employed and whether the quality of your work experience is good. Your work does more than affect your self-esteem; it organizes your day, connects you with others, and can give you a sense of purpose."
- Chip Conley, Emotional Equations: Simple Truths for Creating Happiness + Success
"My mindset is not to sell. My job is to help. My main purpose is to educate and inform."

“Success + failure = wisdom & grit.” This is one of Clark’s core beliefs.  Especially when he’s interviewing executive candidates for client fit. Clark Waterfall is the co-founder and Managing Director of BSG.  Formerly known as Boston Search Group and founded in 1997, BSG is a boutique retained executive search firm focused on recruiting builder-leaders for growth sector industries.

Over the last 25 years in executive search, Clark has remained focused on privately-held, investor-backed clients both private equity and venture-backed.  Clark has a multispecialty sector focus that includes deep domain expertise in technology, energy, and healthcare.

Clark’s functional executive recruiting breadth includes board director search, CEO, President, COO, CFO and the VP levels across sales, marketing, technology, engineering, and product.  While based out of Boston, Clark splits his client time on engagements between Boston, New York and California.

Clark’s professional involvement spans membership and involvement in Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), past Board Director for MIT Enterprise Forum Cambridge Chapter, and frequent speaker on leadership assessment and selection.

Clark is a certified administrator and interpreter for Hogan Psychometrics Assessment.  The Hogan battery of assessment instruments measures normal personality characteristics, career derailment risks, core value drivers, and cognitive style.  Hogan maintains the industry’s largest and most well-developed archive of original research, affording access to hundreds of real-world validity studies demonstrating the extent to which Hogan assessments predict performance.  Hogan is adapted for more than 50 languages and can normalize for intercultural differences.

In the executive search community, Clark has been past national board director & Boston Chapter president of the International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitment (IACPR), charter member of boutique retained search firm organizations Partners Search Alliance and the internationally focused Tinzon Group.  As an active founder in the firm, Clark has been a long-time member of EO with volunteer leadership roles both in the local Boston chapter as Chapter President and at the global level as EO Eastern Regional Director.

Personally, Clark's volunteerism mirrors his passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and social responsibility as national Board Director for the Cleantech Open and  Board of Overseers for the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra , conducted by Benjamin Zander.

Prior to his career in executive search, Clark’s career began in the banking industry in sales and sales management including with Citicorp/Citibank. Before receiving his MBA at Babson’s Olin School of Management, Clark did his undergraduate studies in a double–degree program at Tufts University in English literature and the New England Conservatory of Music in classical percussion performance.

Outside of work, Clark lives in MetroWest Boston with veterinarian wife and two children, squeezing in as much tennis, triathlon training and crazed mountain-biking as work-life balance allows.
