    BSG has commenced an executive search for a Business Development Professional for our client, a private equity firm with a global presence spanning North America and Europe. Reporting to the U.S.  General Managing Partner, the Business Development Professional will be charged with developing relationships to assist in building new lines of business within North America.

    Opportunity Overview

    BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL

    THE COMPANY

    Our client is a private equity firm with over 25 years of investment experience building healthy and growing businesses, with a strong focus in Europe and a growing presence in North America.

    THE POSITION

    The Business Development Professional will be maximizing top-of-funnel opportunities for the North American team. This will include activities such as covering major investment banking accounts, identifying and maintaining relationships with active business brokers and other potential deal sources (accountants, lawyers, wealth managers, etc.), and assisting with developing other unique sourcing channels for the firm.

    Secondary responsibilities will include overall brand-building activities and assisting with strategic planning and execution of the activities necessary to establish the firm’s presence in North America, including marketing events, production of marketing and media pieces, and exploration of new industry verticals in which to invest.

    The ideal candidate will also have the ability to act as a “utility player” and assist with new deal evaluations and portfolio company work. While their business development professional is not responsible for making investment decisions, the ideal candidate will have an interest in private equity and investing and learn how to effectively evaluate new deal opportunities.

    Responsibilities

    • Active sourcing of new investment opportunities.
    • Maintenance of a CRM system – develop and deploy a systematic approach to BD and retain extensive records of interactions and key learnings.
    • Develop, implement and maintain a proactive approach to sourcing new investment opportunities.
    • Collaborate on marketing materials and other means to build firm recognition – providing meaningful input to social media, PR, etc.
    • Develop a deep understanding of the current investment thesis and suggest new ones and work to assist in developing well thought out theses.
    • Engage wholeheartedly in the team, coaching and inviting coaching from others.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 2+ years of business development experience, ideally in Private Equity or a service industry that targets the PE industry.
    • High levels of intelligence, analytical ability combined with curiosity, grit and passion.
    • A self-starter who has his/her own opinion and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to look critically at your own content.
    • Excellent communication and social skills with a strong team work ethic, bolstered by broad social interest and a sense of humor.
    • Experience in entrepreneurship and/or working with entrepreneurs is a plus.
    • Bachelor’s degree with excellent academic results or an interesting alternative. Master’s degree a plus.

    • Demonstrated success as a people leader, including the ability to set and gain buy-in for strategic direction and vision, attract, hire, retain, and develop high performing teams, and establish an engaging culture of accountability, quality, and customer focus.
    • Demonstrate professional behavior and actions consistent with company values.

    Compensation

    Compensation is competitive with the position’s requirements. In a performance-based environment, this will include base salary and bonus structure based on corporate qualitative and quantitative milestones and a commensurate carried interest position.
