    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Quad Partners is moving to provide overall greater integration and support among its portfolio of education companies by adding a Chief Marketing Officer, who will be an operating partner at Quad in a matrixed reporting structure. Quad’s leadership culture is one that is both collegial and highly entrepreneurial and rigorous.

    The CMO will focus on marketing strategy and implementation for all of Quad’s investments (B2C and B2B). The goal is to bring a level of sophistication and an application of best practices, especially in the areas of branding, digital marketing and data analytics, and shared services across the entire Quad portfolio. The CMO will work closely with the Quad investment team and the CEOs and VPs/Directors of Marketing for each of the portfolio companies to solve problems and establish new levels of marketing expertise across Quad’s holdings.

    THE COMPANY

    Founded in 2000, Quad Partners set out to build a different firm – one with a unique focus, operational expertise, and partnership culture. Today it is one of the most active investors in the education industry, driving value-creation with a team of experienced investors and operators working with passion, transparency, and integrity.

    Quad Partners has invested in 25 platform education companies and over 60 add-on acquisitions. Currently the firm is investing its fourth fund – $200 million of committed institutional capital.

    Quad Partners invests in all aspects of the education industry – schools, colleges, products, services and technologies that are employed across the age spectrum. The firm acquires privately owned businesses, invests capital for growth, provides liquidity for shareholders and facilitates spinoffs from corporate owners. Quad Partners seeks to invest $5 million to $40 million of equity capital per situation and has the capacity for more via limited partners.

    THE POSITION

    Specific responsibilities and expectations include the following:

    • Working in a matrixed organization, gain the confidence of portfolio company CEOs and marketing leaders by establishing yourself as an expert resource and developing them as collaborative partners.
    • Work with portfolio companies to develop and implement strategic marketing best practices and a plan for fully utilizing brand development, digital media, data analytics, and other marketing skills to drive revenue and customer growth.
    • Work with portfolio companies to identify and share marketing challenges and solutions across all areas of marketing, including media relations, advertising, online marketing, direct marketing, and grassroots outreach in support of B2C and B2B businesses.
    • Analyze the effectiveness of marketing activities across the companies to maximize return on investment and effectiveness.
    • Work closely with the company CFOs to establish best practices and standards for marketing budgets and financial analysis of results.
    • As needed, provide input and analysis to Quad Partners as they research, identify, and analyze new acquisitions.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

    The ideal candidate currently heads up the marketing/customer acquisition role for a B2C company offering a consumer-focused service (education, healthcare, hospitality, financial services, etc.). Alternatively, this individual could be with a direct marketing agency with a strong consumer service focus. The ideal candidate brings a strong strategic marketing skill set and, in particular, deep expertise in digital marketing, including social media, data analytics, and web search techniques.

    Specific experience with a for-profit school, college, or other educational service provider is a plus but not a requirement.

    S/he should have demonstrated experience in researching and segmenting markets, then creating direct-marketing campaigns that not only acquire customers but also generate continuous revenues from each customer through retention programs and high-quality customer service.

    Critical to a candidate’s background is a thorough understanding of the process and metrics of acquiring and keeping customers. This means in-depth knowledge and a stellar track record in market research, direct marketing, product management, promotions, advertising, PR, media purchasing, and CRM software application.

    Specific competencies and experience include:

    • A highly attuned insight into how to “manage by influence “and not by dictum: to guide best practices in marketing by example and respect rather than by authority.
    • 10 or more years of marketing experience.
    • Strong experience in a wide range of (if not all) marketing functions: advertising, direct marketing, telemarketing, grassroots and word-of-mouth marketing, public relations, marketing communications, website communications, online marketing (including paid search, search engine optimization, social media, etc.), market research, and data analytics
    • Excellent analytical and financial abilities, experience in customer relationship management, market research, and financial analysis of marketing activities, budgeting, and modeling
    • Demonstrated success in generating customer and revenue growth
    • Focus and commitment to analysis, measurement, innovation, and continuous improvement
    • Entrepreneurial ability balanced with an ability to function successfully working on priorities across a number of portfolio companies.
    • Specific online/digital marketing experience with a complex consumer service.
    • Marketing and selling experience in a highly regulated industry (useful).
    • Knowledge of the education industry is useful.
    • Agency experience could be useful, where juggling “clients” and personalized branding are an important part of the job.
    • Dedication to exceptional standards of individual and departmental work product quality and output, customer service, and integrity.
    • Strong ability to communicate effectively in writing, presentation, and personal conversation to a range of audiences including peers, subordinates, and portfolio CEOs.
    • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree a plus.

    COMPENSATION

    Compensation will include salary, performance bonus, and significant equity commensurate with the individual’s experience.

    TRAVEL

    Travel to the corporate office and to portfolio companies could be as much as 50% in a year.
